When asked why he should be chosen to receive a scholarship to attend the TFK’s Spring Break Camp, James, age 12, replied, “Because I could actually do something instead of sitting down on the couch and play video games.”
Chris Niewold, of the National Park Service National Capital Region, commented, “through our successful partnership with Trips for Kids –Metro DC, the National Park Service in the Greater Washington DC area has been able to provide healthy outdoor activities for kids who wouldn’t otherwise get the chance. Upon completion, this program will provide better bicycling access to the Anacostia River waterfront, Fort Dupont Park and the Fort Circle Parks trail. In addition to creating opportunities for youth, this partnership also helps the National Park Service develop the next generation of park stewards who will protect these important natural and cultural resources for future generations.”
