Teaching kids to overcome obstacles on the trail and in life!

Click here for the upcoming April 11, 2013 Volunteer Information Night – we could use your help!

Do you like working with children?  Interested in helping them lead a more active life?  Then we’ve got volunteer opportunities for you!

Here are basic descriptions of the volunteer activities at TYO.

Ride Assistants:  Want to be on the trails with the kids?  Grab your bike and join us!  We’re always looking for able-bodied adults who can help accompany the ride leaders and help get the equipment ready.  You’ll work directly with the children, making the day more informative and fun.

Experience needed:  Able to ride a bike for 5 miles on a variety of trails  (we’ll assign you rides based on your comfort level).  Ability to supervise children as needed.

Time commitment:  Approximately three hours per ride event.

Ride Leaders:  Our ride leaders are the keys to successful rides. If you are willing to invest in giving time for the kids, TYO will invest in you. If you are an experience mountain biker who really enjoys working with children, we will pay for CPR training, show you the specific ride routes and routines, as well as cover the cost of the required background check.

Experience needed:  Able to ride a bike for 5+ miles on a variety of trails.  Ability and desire to mentor, supervise and motivate children.  Pass a background check and complete a CPR training course.

Time commitment:  Approximately five hours per event.

Rodeo Assistants:  Rodeos teach children how to safely ride their bikes via a mock street course.  We fit them for helmets, teach them about traffic signals, how important it is to be safe, and, of course, how much fun it is to ride your bike!

Experience needed:  none – we’ll teach you everything you need to know!

Time commitment:  Approximately three hours per event.

Event Assistants:  We hold a number of events each year, from small rides to our annual festival.  We’re looking for people who enjoy being “behind the scenes” with activities such as picking up ice for a cooler, making flyer copies, meeting a group of riders with cold drinks after a ride, etc.

Experience needed:  None – we’ll show you the ropes.

Time commitment:  Approximately three hours per event.

Check out our upcoming event dates!
