“When can we ride again?!”
That’s the first question the kids ask when we are done biking. They may start out shy, worried, hardened by life’s stressors, but as they continue to bike those melt away to reveal the expression of simple joy of the activity and exertion.
As the kids focus on overcoming the physical challenges facing them on the trail, the difficulties they face in day-to-day living slide away. They finish their bike ride out of breath, perhaps a bit dirty but exhilarated for their accomplishments – they achieved success!
“When can we ride again?!”
This is a call for mental and physical help and we at TrailsforYouth.Org strive to meet that need for each and every rider at our events.
We realize all children are at-risk of obesity and lack of exercise, but our poor and minority communities are disproportionally effected.
These are more than a bicycle ride on a dirt trail; they are the very essence of personal challenge and growth. The need is there and we will continue to answer the question…
“When can we ride again?!”
We open our programs to all youth, regardless of their financial situations and provide scholarships when needed. Through these scholarships, we provide more opportunities for at-risk youth to be involved in classes, camping trips, camps and youth races. If you would a scholarship to attend one of our events, contact Julie at julie@tfkmetrodc.org.
